WELCOME TO MOTH & MIDDEN™

A place for women coming back to themselves.

For the ones who have spent years being capable, useful, resilient, accommodating and needed. For the ones beginning to ask:

What do I actually want?
What happens when I stop being easier for everyone else and I stop performing?
What have I tucked away, talked myself out of, or abandoned along the way?

This isn’t about becoming a shinier, more evolved version of yourself. It’s about remembering who is already there.

Your instincts. Your boundaries. Your creativity. Your appetite. Your anger. Your tenderness. Your inner knowing.

MEET MOSS HAG

There comes a point when being capable stops feeling like freedom.

You know how to keep going. You know how to make things work. You know how to take care of people, adapt, be sensible, keep the peace and get on with it. But somewhere underneath all that competence, there may be a quieter voice asking:

What about me?

Moss Hag was created for that conversation. She isn’t a guru. She doesn’t have a five-step plan for fixing your life. And she has absolutely no interest in helping you become more palatable. She is earthy, intuitive, irreverent, tender and occasionally inconvenient, with a particular interest in the parts of you that have been waiting for your attention.

There is no correct way to work with Moss Hag. There is only your way.

Moss Hag is the first offering from Moth & Midden.

WHAT’S INSIDE

A message: A deeper exploration of the card and what it may be asking you to notice.

An affirmation: A thought to practise standing inside.

A ritual: A small, grounded way to bring the card out of your head and into your life.

36 original oracle cards: Each card is a doorway into reflection rather than an answer handed down from somewhere outside you.

A journal prompt: A question designed to take you somewhere useful.

An original sigil: A symbol created for the energy and intention of each card, with its meaning explored in the companion guidebook.

36 cards + companion guidebook, presented together in the Moss Hag box.

THE JOURNEY THROUGH MOSS HAG

01 – MEETING YOURSELF WHERE YOU ARE
Before anything needs to change, there is noticing. These cards meet you in the life you’re actually living, including the exhaustion, frustration, uncertainty, contradictions and things you may have been carrying for too long.

Moss Hag is designed as a three-part journey, moving from where you are now, through the process of returning to yourself, and towards the person you want to become. You don’t have to move through the deck in order. But there is a path there when you want one.

02 – COMING BACK TO YOURSELF
This is the return. To instinct. Boundaries. Pleasure. Creativity. Anger. Rest. Desire. The parts of you that may have gone quiet while you were busy being who everyone needed you to be.

03 – BECOMING WHO YOU WANT TO BE
Not becoming someone else. Becoming more deliberately yourself. These cards look towards choice, possibility and the life you want to create from here.

You’re stuck between what you want and what you think you should want.

You’ve said yes when every part of you wanted to say no.

You’re exhausted and can’t quite work out why.

You’re standing at the beginning of something new.

You’re grieving something that no longer fits.

You can feel yourself changing but don’t have language for it yet.

You need to make a decision and everyone else’s opinions have become louder than your own.

Or you simply want ten quiet minutes with yourself before the rest of the world gets a vote.

HOW TO USE MOSS HAG

Pull a card with your cup of tea. Choose one when you’re stuck. Journal with it, argue with it, or simply sit with the image. If you want more structure, the guidebook includes a range of guided spreads to help you go deeper. Use as much or as little structure as you need. There is no ritual police, only tools to help you see yourself more clearly.

FOUNDING PRE-SALE

What if you could come back to yourself?

There are times when you know something isn’t right, but you can’t quite name it. You’re tired, but rest doesn’t seem to be the whole answer. You’re frustrated, but you’ve become very good at talking yourself out of your anger. You want something different, but you’re no longer sure whether the voice in your head belongs to you or to everyone you’ve spent years trying not to disappoint.

Moss Hag was created for those moments.

Not to tell you what to do. Not to predict your future. And not to hand you another version of the woman you ought to become.

She helps you slow things down long enough to notice what has been getting lost underneath the noise.

A card might help you recognise the boundary you keep stepping over.
Name the thing you are grieving.
Notice what your anger is protecting.
Give yourself permission to want something.
See where you are abandoning yourself to keep somebody else comfortable.
Or remind you that pleasure, rest, mess, desire and change are allowed to belong in your life too.

Sometimes what we need isn’t another answer.

We need a way back to ourselves.

The first Moss Hag print run will begin when 175 decks have found their people. By pre-ordering, you are reserving one of the first decks and helping this independently created project make her way into the world.

Founding pre-sale price: NZ$69

Your deck includes 36 oracle cards, a companion guidebook and presentation box, with messages, affirmations, rituals, journal prompts, original sigils and guided spreads.

Whether you need a single moment of reflection or somewhere deeper to go, Moss Hag gives you a place to begin.

If you’ve spent a long time shaping yourself around everyone else, Moss Hag is an invitation to come back to what is yours.

A FEW THINGS YOU MIGHT BE WONDERING

Melissa Mae, creator of Moth & Midden, she is smiling, wearing glasses and a cozy sweater, relaxing in a sunlit living room with books and tea.

WHY I MADE MOSS HAG

Symmetrical moth illustration with cream, purple, and gold wings decorated with celestial symbols on a black background

Who am I when I’m not taking care of everyone else?

That answer was confronting, because I didn’t really know. Somewhere along the way, I had become so enmeshed in the needs, feelings and lives of others that I had stopped paying attention to my own. I knew how to love outwardly. I wasn’t nearly as practised at turning that love towards myself.

Coming back has not been neat.

It has meant learning where I end and others begin. Sitting with grief instead of trying to fix it. Letting myself be sad and angry. Learning what I actually want. Allowing pleasure back in. Making things. Changing my mind. Setting boundaries. Making mistakes. And slowly becoming reacquainted with parts of myself I had neglected for a very long time. Moss Hag grew out of that.

The cards hold something I have had to confront, remember, practise or reclaim. Some are tender. Some are funny. Some are uncomfortable. Some will tell you to rest. Others might tell you to get angry, get muddy, stop carrying what isn’t yours, or wander off in a completely different direction.

I made this deck for the women who have loved hard, carried too much, kept everyone else afloat, pushed through exhaustion, swallowed their needs, made themselves easier to love, and slowly disappeared from their own lives in the process.

For the women who are tired of abandoning themselves in the name of love, strength, responsibility or keeping everything together. Not because I have all the answers. I don’t.

But because I know what it is to have to find your way back to yourself.

Moss Hag is the companion I wish I’d had when I began finding my way back to myself.

with love
